Is there a proper name for it? (The ones used in doctor's office with a cuff that goes around the upper arm, a bulb that puffs air into it to tighten, and has a dial with numbers on it.)
The thing to check heart and lungs, etc., most people know is called a stethoscope, but the thing to check blood pressure, everyone calls "blood pressure thingy" or "blood pressure cuff" (but the cuff is only a part of it?)<< less

Ongoing skin issues, heart problems, arthritus in both shoulders, sleep issues, prostate, and now dental surgery over the next 8 months. I'm expecting to be diagnosed with sleep apnea shortly which will begin another treatment. I'm worried about wearing down psychologically with all of this going on. My insurance covers alot but money is going out faster than it's coming in (though I don't sweat it having always gotten by in the past). I didn't really want to deal with the sleep thing but the dentist and doctors are pushing it. I KNOW MANY OF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH BIGGER HEALTH ISSUES than these, so any advice is welcome.<< less

It seems to me that posts in the DB's which are always critical of Askville and predict it's collapse are made by the same people over and over again. They treat Askville as if it's their own private klatch. Which is okay, but why the constant complaints? Why does everything have to be perfect...and bland...like eating cake at a PTA meeting. Or hanging out at your Church's singles club
It seems to me, that rarely a day goes by without a DB predicting the end of Askville. And they're all the same people...a clique of bantering, whining people who forget that they do what they do only because Askville exists.
Trite conversations are okay...jokes are okay...but what is not okay is that they curse the very instrument that permits them to carry on. They whine about vulgar language and porn. Well, there's porn and vulgar language on every forum. In fact the porn and vulgar language DB's are popular among these people. It gives them material to complain about. It feed their triviality.<< less

Each year I try to choose an underlying theme for how the family Christmas Tree will be decorated. Given the current economic situation, as well as an overall lack of funding for this year's undertaking, I'm thinking about getting inspiration from the Depression.
My attempts to find resources on how some families may have decorated their trees during that period have come up wanting. I'm not clear if those who did decorate did anything unique other than what was common at the time. Even resources on what was used around then for a typical holiday tree are hard to come by.
Would anyone have any insight into this, perhaps, obscure bit of Americana? Or are there those who may have helpful links to where more research could be conducted?<< less
